Lan/Wan Solutions Internet Access Web Services Colocation Services

Are there any limitations to wireless service?

A customer must be within a 3 to 4 mile radius of an Bear Technologies Internet Cell in order to successfully send and receive a wireless signal. In addition, the customer's subscriber unit must be in the line-of-sight of a Bear Technologies transmission point. In many cases it is necessary to install the subscriber unit on the roof of a building to ensure proper performance.  The true advantage with Bear Technologies wireless technology is that we avoid the time and expense of dealing with the Telco.  This means better, faster, and less expensive service for you.

Does weather affect Bear Technologies Wireless service?

No.  Unlike satellite, Bear Technologies high-frequency RF signals are not affected by any form of precipitation or other objects such as planes or birds.

Do I need any equipment to use Bear Technologies Wireless Service?

In order to access Bear Technologies high-speed wireless service, a customer needs no additional equipment because we deliver service via an industry standard Ethernet interface. However, our service is delivered via a single IP address.  To provide access to a LAN, a network address translator (NAT) device must be present.  Many LAN's already use such devices and many are available for under $ 200.00.  Check with your network administrator or your Bear Technologies account representative to see if you may need a NAT device.  If so, we can provide one.

How secure is the wireless transmission?

The wireless technology we use is a frequency-hopping, spread-spectrum RF signal developed for the military.  Radio transmission is spread across 79 frequencies in a pseudo-random order.  While technically speaking, it is possible for someone highly technical, and with very sophisticated equipment, to intercept your traffic.  However, one could do the same, with much less difficulty to any copper based access you may already be using.  Quite simply, our technology is more secure than a DSL or T1 line.  If you are concerned about your security feel free to visit with one of our representatives about security.  There are ways to encrypt all traffic before it is transmitted to provide an even greater degree of security.

What does a typical rooftop installation look like

Our typical rooftop installation utilizes a non-penetrating tripod mount, and our integrated antenna/radio unit.  Installation is typically done in just a few hours.

How long does it take to get service?

If you are in range of an existing Bear Technologies Wireless Internet Cell, we can generally have you up and running in just a few days.  Installation generally takes just a few hours.
